A young student was stabbed in the face with scissors during a fight with another woman, it emerged today.

Police were called to the incident near the City and Islington College campus in Holloway Road at noon on Wednesday.

It is understood that the women were both students there.

Witnesses claimed one of them grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed the other near an Iceland supermarket. The victim was taken to hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

A neighbour told the Standard: “When I got home there was police tape everywhere. It was chaos.”

A Met spokesman said the alleged attacker had been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and was being questioned at a north London police station.

The spokesman added: “Police were called following reports of a fight between two females. It was alleged that one girl had attacked another with a pair of scissors.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and one female was taken to hospital for treatment to a facial injury. She has since been discharged.

“Another female was arrested on suspicion of GBH and remains in custody at a north London police station. Inquiries continue.”

Students at City and Islington College expressed their shock. One said: “Holloway Road can be rough but you do not expect this to happen near the college. A scissor attack is just so horrific. We all just hope the girl will be okay.”

Another said: “I don’t know what it was about. This is a good college and there is a nice atmosphere — we can’t imagine what could have caused someone to be so angry and brutal.”

The college said in statement: “The college is currently investigating an incident to establish exactly what happened.

"As the incident did not occur on the college’s premises, it would not be sensible to comment until we have further details.”
