A teenager has been charged with attempted abduction after an alleged incident at a primary school in Croydon, police said.

The 17-year-old is due in court tomorrow after he is said to have entered Beulah Junior School at around 12.20pm on Monday, July 21.

He told staff he was there to collect a named child, it is alleged.

However, after teachers spoke to the child - who did not know who he was - it is alleged the youth fled the school before staff could establish his identity.

A youth was then arrested more than three weeks later.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will appear at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court on Saturday charged with attempted abduction.
