Three men were today being questioned over the murders of British tourists Hannah Witheridge and David Miller.

Detectives said an apparent link had been established between the men and the hoe used in the attack on Miss Witheridge, 23.

The trio, all Thai and in their early 20s, are being held in custody until DNA test results come back.

Police General Mamen, Head of the Thai Police, Southern Region said: “We expect a result within 48 hours as DNA samples have been sent off for testing but we are confident in this latest turn in the investigation.”

The men are suspected to be three young men caught on CCTV following Miss Witheridge, from Great Yarmouth and Mr Miller, from Jersey, on the night of the murders.

The tourists were found dead in the early hours of September 15.

Post-mortem examinations found Miss Witheridge, a speech therapist student, died from head wounds and engineering graduate Mr Miller died from blows to the head and drowning.
