Police are hunting a man who knocked a commuter out and then carried on punching him as he lay on the floor of a busy Tube station.

The 31-year-old victim was left in hospital with a scalp laceration and a bruised, swollen lip after the attack, which happened at Leicester Square Tube on Friday June 26.

British Transport Police said the victim had got into an “altercation” with his assailant after getting off an eastbound Piccadilly line train at 10.45pm. The man then landed a blow that knocked him to the ground – and he continued to attack him as he lay unconscious.

BTP today released an image of a man they believe has information about the assault.

Det Const Steve Best said: “This was a violent attack that left the victim with a number of injuries.

“I am keen to speak to the man pictured in the CCTV image as I believe he holds information that could help with this investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference T-SUB/B5 of August 11. You can also contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
