Kidney donor patient, 9, becomes face of Great Ormond Street Hospital campaign

A boy who has spent most of his life in and out of hospital suffering from kidney failure is the face of a new Great Ormond Street Hospital campaign.

Delano Joseph-Myers, nine, from Homerton, was weeks old when he was diagnosed with kidney issues.

One kidney he received aged four from a donor is starting to fail, meaning he spends a lot of time on dialysis. He is about to go back on the transplant list.

His mother Diane said: “He makes friends in hospital but then they go or he goes home.

"It is tough. And he will say to me, ‘Why can’t I go out and play outside?’ and that is pretty heart-rending.”

Delano appears from Thursday in a 60-second advert, called Ordinary World, for the hospital’s charity, about how patients struggle to lead normal lives.

He said: “My friends and family will think I’m famous when they see me.”
