Albert Hall's vice-president admits profiting from selling his tickets

29 March 2012

The Albert Hall vice-president has admitted selling his own debenture seat tickets at inflated prices.

Elie Dangoor, 53, defended the touting of tickets but said new measures to curb the practice — which is not against Albert Hall rules — may need to be introduced.

The Charity Commission said in January that trustees must stop the sales after seats for major events appeared on ticket tout websites for up to £20,000. Stars, promoters, MPs and other seat holders have also condemned such profiteering, especially for charity concerts.

Mr Dangoor is the third trustee named as having sold on debenture seat tickets for profit. The other two identified, Leon Baroukh, 34, and Richard Waterbury, 65, have been making up to £100,000 a year. They insist they have done nothing wrong.
