The twin of former It Girl Alexandra Aitken today leapt to her sister’s defence amid suggestions that her marriage to a Sikh warlord was in trouble.

Alexandra, 32, the daughter of disgraced Conservative MP Jonathan Aitken, bade farewell to the nightclubs of Mayfair and Chelsea in November 2010 to get married and live in an Indian ashram.

She was pictured this week in a flowing white tunic and turban, striding along a country road carrying a spear but locals claimed that she is no longer with husband Inderjot Singh.

Victoria hit out at the reports, saying the couple were still together and that she spoke to Alexandra “all the time”.

However, she admitted: “Sometimes it can be quite difficult to reach her when she’s in the hills.”

Alexandra once posed naked for GQ magazine and was often pictured falling out of nightclubs in revealing dresses.

Following her marriage, she changed her name to Uttrang Kaur Khalsa and moved to live with a sect of yoga Sikhs in the Punjab village of Bani.

Now she is no longer allowed to cut her hair, uses a wooden comb and scrubs the temple floors with holy water at the end of each day.

Victoria revealed that she, too, has forged an unlikely partnership — joining forces with Jamaican rapper Spragga Benz to record a single, Wasting Away.

The aspiring singer told the Evening Standard: “Nobody would expect us to do a song together. He wears a turban like Alexandra and sometimes I think he’s with the wrong sister.

“We have made some great dance music. I sound English, like an English rose, his voice is warm, sexy, and incredible. It’s a very good combination.”

Victoria’s musical career has taken off in recent months after another song, Weekend Lover, was featured in the soundtrack of Hollywood film Damsels in Distress. In 1999 — the year that Jonathan Aitken was jailed for seven months for perjuring himself in a libel case over deals with Saudi arms traders — the twins discovered that they had a half-sister Petrina Khashoggi, now 31. DNA tests showed that she had been conceived during an affair between the former Cabinet Minister and Soraya Khashoggi, the ex-wife of arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi.

Petrina this week tweeted a picture of herself drinking champagne with a friend in New York.

It was accompanied by the message: “Thank you for teaching me how to crack open and eat a lobster, just like a real mermaid.”
