An Arsenal supporter has been banned from all football matches after fighting with Spurs fans outside a pub and shouting racist language.

Phillip Carroll, of Snaresbrook Road, Waltham Forest, was part of a group of football fans involved in the scuffle on May 11 when Arsenal were playing Norwich City.

The Old Bailey heard the incident began with harmless chanting between rival north London fans at the Hamilton Hall pub, in Liverpool Street, located at the entrance to the train station.

But the chanting soon turned into a mass brawl when Carroll threw his pint over Spurs fans while shouting racist language.

A punch-up broke out between the two groups, leading to chaos in the pub as tables were pushed over and glasses smashed.

The 37-year-old, who appeared at the Old Bailey last week, was handed a three year Football Banning Order, stopping him from attending any football match in the UK.

He was also fined £2,735, ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and given a 12 month Community Service Order.

PC Barry Vasselin, of the British Transport Police, said: “Football is a game for people to enjoy and be passionate about, however violence or criminal behaviour will not be tolerated on the rail network.

“The banning order handed down should be seen as a deterrent to others who engage in anti-social or violent behaviour.”
