A "serious road traffic collision" in north-east London this afternoon left a child in hospital and shut roads.

The crash involved a car and a pedestrian, London Ambulance Service said.

The Met's MPS Waltham Forest account tweeted: "We are currently dealing with a serious road traffic collision High Road, E11. Road closures in place. Please avoid area."

A photo from the scene shows London's Air Ambulance looking for a landing spot near the crash.

The Standard's health editor Ross Lydall tweeted: "Medics @LDNairamb looking for landing spot to help with emergency in High Road Leytonstone. Road closures widespread."

Police were not immediately able to provide any further details but a London Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed an ambulance crew and the air ambulance had been sent to the scene, where a boy was treated for a leg injury before being taken to the Royal London Hospital.
