Retailer Cath Kidston is scrambling to restock the Guards-themed tank top worn by Prince George in a series of recent portraits following “huge demand” for it from customers.

The company had sold out of the navy children’s top, which features three marching guards on the front, before the photographs were released on Sunday.

Since then, customers have inundated the store hoping to get their hands on the tank top - which originally cost £28 but had been reduced to £18.

Within hours, hundreds of shoppers had tweeted the brand asking whether it would be restocked. Last night, a post on the Cath Kidston Twitter page read: “They are now out of stock, we’re looking into getting more.”

Another read: “We’ll be speaking to our team tomorrow to see what’s possible so we’ll be able to update you next week #fingerscrossed.”

The company referred customers to two other similar items - the “Stop Thief!” design and the “Dogs” top. They have both been reduced from £28 to £18.

The series of photographs taken of 17-month-old George on the steps of Kensington Palace were taken by Prince Harry’s Private Secretary Ed Lane Fox.
