Champagne reception for lucky 50 millionth visitor to London Eye

Nice trip: 50 millionth visitors the Anderson family
Michael Howie21 August 2013

The London Eye today welcomed its 50 millionth visitor 13 years after it began rotating.

Staff greeted the Anderson family as they prepared to board and treated them to a celebratory bottle of champagne in their own private capsule.

It was an extra special experience for the Andersons as three generations of the family were at the London Eye, with visiting American grandparents Gregg and Sandy joining their UK-based son Eric, wife Caroline and their children Stefan, Heidi and Marta.

At 135m, the Eye is the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel and in one year will rotate 7668 times, or 2300 miles.

Supermodel Kate Moss holds the record for the UK celebrity who has made the most rotations, standing at 25, and Hollywood star Jessica Alba holds the record for an overseas celebrity (31).
