Cyclist fighting for life following horror car collision in Islington

A cyclist is fighting for his life following a collision with a car in Islington.

Officers rushed to Essex Road near the junction with Canonbury Street at 4.46pm on Friday following reports of an accident.

The cyclist – a man aged in his 30s – has been taken to hospital and remains in critical condition.

His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The Honda Civic car stopped at the scene. The male driver is assisting police with enquiries. There has been no arrest.

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are investigating the circumstances. They are particularly keen to hear from any witnesses who saw the collision, or captured it on CCTV or dashcam devices.
