Debenhams celebrates 200th birthday with giant cake in Oxford Street

Debenhams celebrated its 200th anniversary today with a huge birthday cake outside the flagship Oxford Street store.

Model Laura Coleman surprised shoppers by jumping out of the cake wearing a gold sequin dress by Julien Macdonald from a range to celebrate the landmark birthday.

The retailer is officially 200 years old on Christmas Day.

This marks the date that in 1813, William Debenham bought a share in the drapers store at 44 Wigmore Street in London.
