A goose was found with horrific and potentially fatal injuries in an east London park after it was shot with a crossbow, RSPCA inspectors say.

The injured bird, with the crossbow bolt still sticking out of it, was rescued from Hornchurch Country Park yesterday.

When inspector Mitchell Smith took it for an x-ray, he was horrified to see the bolt had gone straight through its pelvis and into the abdomen.

Mr Smith said: “This is a horrible injury and the goose must have been in a lot of pain.

“Fortunately he has now received veterinary care at a nearby wildlife hospital but we don’t yet know if he will survive this ordeal.”

The RSPCA say they do not know if the injuries were caused intentionally or not.
