A man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to pull a woman onto train tracks at King’s Cross Underground Station.

While the woman was “shaken up” but unharmed, the man was hit by a train during the incident, British Transport Police (BTP) said on Monday.

Emergency services rushed to the Hammersmith and City Line at the busy London station just before 1.30pm.

“It’s believed a man attempted to pull a woman onto the tracks, before being hit by the train himself,” a BTP spokesperson told the Standard.

“The woman was thankfully unharmed, but understandably shaken up.

“While enquiries into the incident are at an early stage, it’s not believed the two were known to each other.”

The man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and taken to hospital for treatment to head injuries.

Tube passengers reported seeing emergency services at King’s Cross station.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 1.32pm today to reports of a person hit by a train at Kings Cross Underground Station, Euston Road.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a medic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART). We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated a man at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre as a priority.”

The incident caused severe delays on the Circle and Hammersmith & City Lines.

There is now a good service on the Hammersmith & City Line and minor delays on the Circle Line, according to Transport for London (TfL).

Any witnesses who haven’t already spoken to police are asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 266 of 29/08/22. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously.
