How much is the Elizabeth Line to London Heathrow airport price hike?

Journeys ending at Hayes & Harlington, Hatton Cross, and Hounslow West will not be impacted.

The fee for all tube and Elizabeth line journeys between zone 1 and Heathrow Airport was been increased to the peak rate, as of September 4.

This now means for journeys between Heathrow Airport and Zone 1, passengers will be charged at peak hours rates, regardless of when the journey takes place.

Any journeys which end at stations before the Heathrow terminals, such as Hayes & Harlington, Hatton Cross, and Hounslow West, will continue to be charged at an off-peak fare, as they aren’t in Zone 1.

The journey between central London and Heathrow Airport on the Piccadilly line now costs £5.50, and a similar trip on the Elizabeth line costs £12.80.

Pay-as-you-go journeys still qualify for daily and weekly capping and free travel for under 11s still remain in place.

Furthermore, another change that was introduced on September 4 means that the price of a new Oyster card has increased from £5 to £7.

The rise is a result of the latest government funding deal, according to Transport for London (TfL).

The governing body responsible for most of the transport network in London said the £2 increase is expected to generate additional income of up to £27 million per year for TfL.

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: “This fare increase was chosen as one which would have a lower impact on Londoners currently worried about the cost of living, and to ensure that journeys that avoid Zone 1 will not be affected, helping to protect those living near and working at the airport.”

While taking either the Piccadilly Line or the Elizabeth Line will still be significantly cheaper than the Heathrow Express on most occasions, passengers could get a better deal with Heathrow Express if they buy a train ticket at least 90 days before they travel, as the Heathrow Express offers tickets to or from London Paddington for £5.50.
