People buying a house in London are the least likely in Britain to be put off by nightmare neighbours, a new study has found.
Research shows one in three Londoners surveyed would be concerned about neighbours when viewing a home, compared to 45 per cent nationally.
In the north east, 57 per cent of residents said fears over those living next door would put them off buying a home, suggesting a stronger sense of community.
The main concerns for people when buying a property in London included distance from transport links and shops as well as renovation costs.
Well maintained green space proved to be a low priority with just one in 10 saying a messy garden would deter them from buying.
The study also highlighted the capital’s spiraling property costs with 53 per cent of Londoners having never bought a home, compared to a 36 per cent national average.
More than a third of Londoners surveyed even said they had not entertained the idea of buying a home, which researchers described as a “shocking lack of confidence” in joining the capital’s property ladder.
Over 2,000 Britons took part in the survey over two days in January, commissioned by estate agents Purplebricks.
Purplebricks CEO Michael Bruce said: “Homebuyers in some parts of the country are clear about wanting good neighbours, but in the competitive London market buyers want convenience and the ability to add value to a property.
“The benefit of having a property expert on hand to guide buyers through the process means that they get local advice and expertise, so they can find exactly what they’re looking for.”
