London is set to bask in glorious sunshine next week as temperatures soar to more than 25C.

There will be a “big change” in the weather in the capital from Sunday after days of rain and unsettled conditions, according to the Met Office.

The mercury will peak in the mid-20s with the sun expected to shine throughout the week, before wet weather returns during the bank holiday weekend.

Met Office forecaster Greg Dewhurst said: “A big change as we go into next week, the last few days have been a bit wet.

“This is going to change from tomorrow as high pressure begins to build in from the south east.

“It will be dry with sunny spells, particularly later in the afternoon and evening. It will feel quite pleasant, with temperatures peaking at around 21C.

“That sets us up for the week ahead, with a bright start on Monday although it will become cloudier over the day.

“There will be southerly winds with warm air coming in from France and highs of 24 and 25C.”

The capital will continue to enjoy sunny spells on Tuesday through to Thursday, with highs of 23C, while on Friday and into the bank holiday the mercury may hit even higher levels, he said.

He added: “Through Friday and into the bank holiday weekend temperatures will around the mid-20s, possibly higher, but we will start to see a risk of rain again.”
