'Londoners work an average of just 33.5 hours each week'

Londoners work for fewer than eight hours each day on average, a study has found.

A study by financial giant UBS found Londoners work for an average of 33 and a half hours a week.

London came 17th on the list of 71 cities included in the study of working hours, slaving away at their jobs for two and a half-hours less than the average.

UBS also found that the average paid holiday for Londoners, 25 days a year, is two days more than the global average.

French people were found to work the fewest hours each week, with Parisians spending an average of 30 hours and 50 minutes a week at their desk, and workers in Lyon spending slightly more at 31 hours and 22 minutes.

The London working week was dwarfed by Chinese city Hong Kong, where workers put in a whopping average of 50 hours a week.

It also appears that workers in Hong Kong are not rewarded with holiday for their hectic schedule, with the average working in the city only receiving 17.2 days of paid holiday.

The UBS study took details from 15 varied professions such as nurses and bankers over a working year.
