A motorcyclist is fighting for life after a crash involving eight cars brought the M25 to a standstill.

The accident happened between junctions 27 and 28 near Brentwood shortly before 9.30am. Motorists faced hours of delays as a result.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 50s, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, police said.

No one else was injured in Saturday morning's crash.

Highways England tweeted earlier: “Expect long delays on the M25 anti-clockwise from J29. The M25 is closed between J28 and J27.

“Consider alternative routes and allow plenty of extra time for your journey.”

A spokeswoman for the Met Police said: 'We were called at 9.21am this morning to a road traffic collision on the M25 near Brentwood.

“Eight cars and a motorbike were involved in the crash.

“At 59-year-old motorcyclist has been taken to hospital in a critical condition.

“His next of kin are aware.”
