Nelson Mandela is expected to be represented at Lady Thatcher’s funeral by one of his daughters.

The former South African president, 94, is too frail to travel.

Another guest will be F W de Klerk, the former South African leader who was awarded a Nobel peace prize with Mr Mandela for his work in engineering the end of apartheid. Among celebrity guests announced by No 10 are former Antiques Roadshow host Hugh Scully, artist Michael Noakes — who painted Lady Thatcher’s portrait —and the writer William Shawcross.

Chef Marco Pierre White, Formula  1 boss Sir Frank Williams and businessman Gerald Ronson, who was jailed over the Guinness shares scandal, have confirmed they will attend. Daily Mail editor Paul Dacre and broadcaster Martyn Lewis will also be there.
