A 24-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by a car in Richmond.

The victim, a pedestrian, was hit just before 6pm this evening on Hanworth Road.

He was taken to the major trauma centre at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington but police described his injuries as "not life-threatening".

No arrests have been made, Scotland Yard said.

The road was closed for about two hours between Powder Mill Lane and Nelson Rd but has since re-opened.

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called just before 6pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a car.

"We sent a responder in a car and one ambulance crew. Our staff treated a 24-year-old man for a head injury."

Bus routes 110 and 111 were being diverted following the incident, Transport for London posted on Twitter.
