Police investigated reports of a suspicious vehicle next to a major London railway station this afternoon.

Officers from City Police were called to the scene in Liverpool Street at about 3.30pm.

The station was reportedly evacuated as a precaution and surrounding roads were closed.

But police cordons were lifted in less than 30minutes and the area was declared safe after officers found the car's owner.

In a post on Twitter at 3.25pm, police said: "We are dealing with a suspect vehicle close to #Liverpoolstreet Station. Cordons are in place."

At 3.45pm, a spokesperson tweeted: "All cordons have now been lifted near #Liverpoolstreet station after a suspect vehicle was found in the area."
