Police are hunting a driver who fled from the scene of an accident in Holland Park in which a motorcyclist was killed early today.

Police and London Ambulance Service were called to St Anns Road at 4.58am after reports of a collision between a car and a motorcycle.

Paramedics tried to revive the motorcyclist but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Debris from the accident littered the road this morning and streets surrounding the area were closed.

Scotland Yard said the vehicle - a black Vauxhall Astra - was abandoned and the driver ran off before police arrived.

One woman resident living just behind the scene, near the junction with Swanscomb Road, said: “I heard a bang and some commotion from about 5am. There were blue flashing lights and action around the area. It’s horrible.”

The resident, who had lived in the area for “several years” added: “This happening right on our doorsteps is horrible. So sad.”

Police said the dead man’s family had been told and enquiries were under way to trace the fugitive driver.
