Return of the rings, first of the King’s Cross gasholders

One of the Victorian gasholders that once dominated the landscape around King’s Cross station is being rebuilt.

Re-assembly work of Gasholder No 8 has begun on site — as promised before the area underwent massive regeneration — prior to a £2.5 million park and public area being built inside it.

The Grade II-listed structure, which sat between the northern sides of King’s Cross and St Pancras stations, was dismantled in 2011 amd taken to Shepley Engineers in Yorkshire for restoration.

The 82ft cast-iron circular structure is being relocated on the north side of Regent’s Canal and will be joined by three other gasholders which will be rebuilt around a new housing development and restaurant.
