Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel was evacuated on Wednesday.

Crowds of people flooded the streets outside of the hospital, in east London after reports of a suspicious package. Nurses, doctors and patients were left waiting while police investigated the incident.

Met police had arrived to the hospital about 12.30pm before finding the package was “non-suspicious”.

Royal London hospital has since reopened.

Onlookers shared photographs and videos from the scene in London.

Among the tweets, one person wrote: “Suspect package found in Royal London Hospital. Everyone being evacuated. #london.”

Another witness wrote: “Drama at #royallondonhospital as hospital was evacuated due to suspect package. Staff in anti-natal were amazing, getting heavily pregnant women down 8 flights of stairs is no mean feat! @NHSBartsHealth staff are absolute credit to the service.”

“Bomb threat at Royal London Hospital apparently!”

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “At approximately 12:30hrs on Wednesday, 7 July, police were called to a hospital in east London to reports of a suspicious package.
