Dead birds smeared with blood have been found tied to fences along a footpath in Kent.

The disturbing sight was reported to the RSPCA by walkers who found the birds along George Hill Road, Broadstairs, on April 19.

Among the birds were chickens, magpies, pigeons and crows.

Some of the helpless animals were found covered with blood and tied with string around their necks to gate posts or fences.

Since the initial report more dead birds have been found.

RSPCA appeal: a dead magpie found tied to a gate post with string

The RSPCA are investigating and have raised concerns the animals may have suffered prior to their death.

Inspector Deborah Pert said: “We have no idea about what could have happened here and are asking anyone with any information about these incidents, or anything suspicious happening in this area to get in touch and let us know.

“We would in particular like information about how these birds died, as our concern is they may have suffered prior to death.”

Anyone with information can call the RSPCA 0300 123 8018.
