A schoolboy has died after being hit by a bus during the morning rush hour in north London.

The 13-year-old victim was knocked down in Fore Street, Edmonton, just after 8am.

Paramedics battled to save his life but he was pronounced dead at hospital about half an hour later.

His next of kin have been told but he has not been identified by police.

The bus driver was not arrested in connection with the accident, police said.

The road was closed southbound from the North Circular to Cowper Road while police investigated.

Scotland Yard said its officers were called to reports of a collision between a child and a bus just after 8.20am.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 8.14am to reports of a road traffic collision, involving a bus and a pedestrian on Fore Street.

"We sent a number of resources to the scene, including a medical team from London's Air Ambulance by car, and we arrived in under two minutes.

"Sadly, despite extensive efforts to resuscitate the patient, a boy was pronounced dead by the doctor from London's Air Ambulance."

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to speak to them.
