The sun lit up the Shard as Britain's tallest skyscraper was bathed in a spectacular orange glow after a freezing night.

As London awoke from a night of clear skies and plummeting temperatures, the bright orange sun emerged from behind one of the capital's most iconic buildings.

Glorious photos of the spectacular sunrise were taken from Primrose Hill on Wednesday.

They showed iconic skyscrapers including the Gherkin, Walkie-Talkie tower and the Cheesegrater looking impressive lit up by the glowing sky.

A jogger was also pictured making her way through frosty ground up to the top of the hill in front of the sunrise.

The capital was hit by an arctic blast on Monday when temperatures plunged below freezing.

Daytime temperatures peaked at about 5C and plummeted to -6C most nights with the cold snap was expected to last into the weekend.
