Shard team get contract for world's tallest building

21 February 2013

The team behind London’s Shard has landed a contract to project-manage the £780 million construction of the world’s tallest building.

London-based Mace will participate in a joint venture with fellow British firm EC Harris to create the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, which will stand more than 3,280 feet tall.

The building, overlooking the Red Sea, is expected to take over from the 2,717ft (828 metre) Burj Khalifa in Dubai as the world’s tallest skyscraper and be more than three times the height of the 1,017ft (310-metre) Shard.

Building work is scheduled to start later this year and the tower will be completed within 63 months.
