A velvet Rolls Royce has been spotted outside Harrods in west London.

The £300,000 Phantom drophead coupé was pictured next to the upmarket store in Knightsbridge at the weekend.

The stylish covering, which is created by French company Velvet Car, is believed to have cost the owner about £3,000.

On the company's website, a spokesman said it allowed car owners to "escape from the conventional automotive paints".

He added: "Your vehicle becomes an emotional factor. It is beautiful, easy to clean, touchy, personalized, unique and so pleasant to drive."

But some social media users seemed less than convinced by the unusual accessory.

Reece Cassidy tweeted: "If you decide you need a velvet Rolls Royce in your life you officially have more money than sense."

Another Twitter user said: "Hope it gets covered in bird shit!"
