Woman killed in east London car crash

A 28-year-old woman was killed in a crash involving two cars near an east London tube station.

The woman died when her red Vauxhall Corsa was in collision with a silver BMW on the A12 close to Newbury Park Underground station.

The driver of the BMW has been taken to hospital suffering from minor injuries and has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Witness Anthony Woods, 29, a builder who lives near the scene, said: “I heard a big bang late last night around 11pm and looked out my window. There was a lot of debris on the road and I saw a red car all smashed up. A short while later, I saw police cars and an ambulance.”

He added that the area outside the tube station is often the scene of accidents.

He said: “I cannot believe another person has died there. There was another crash about two months ago in the exact same place. It’s an accident spot.”

The A12 was closed in both directions into the early hours of the morning.
