A woman has sparked outrage after she killed her brother's pet goldfish by feeding it a slice of Dairylea in a drunken prank.

Taylor Hagan, 20, who lives in Dundee, came home from a night out and dropped the cheese slice into the fish tank.

In the morning, her brother Jamie woke up to find the fish dead, according to a series of messages posted by Ms Hagan to Facebook.

In a post titled 'I'm a really bad person', which was shared more than 1,100 times and gained more than 8,000 likes, she shared screenshots of a conversation with her mother.

Telling her to come home and face the consequences, her angry mother said: "Your brother now has one dead fish, things like this just aren't funny, Taylor.

"You can't be giving a fish cheese. I'm glad you're finding this funny because no one else is."

In reply Ms Hagan said: "Jamie was awake and said they needed fed. I was eating a Dairylea slice so thought I would share."

After her post was shared by Facebook page the LadBible, she received a barrage of criticism, with Facebook users branding her "childish" and "immature".

One wrote: "I do think she is a disgrace. Killing a live creature and showing no remorse is pretty low in my book!"

Ms Hagan has now removed the messages after she reportedly received a stream of criticism.

In response to the incident, Scottish SPCA Chief Superintendent Mike Flynn said: "We are not aware of the specific details of this situation.

"Fish should only ever be fed food which they are able to digest and which is healthy for them.

"Ideally this should always be by the person responsible for their care."
