World's best pastry chef coming to London kitchen for the first time

Coming to the capital: Albert Adrià

The Michelin starred younger brother of celebrated Spanish kitchen maestro Ferran Adria is bringing one of the most famous dynastic names in world cuisine to a London kitchen for the first time.

Albert Adria, who was pastry chef at his brother’s five times World’s Best Restaurant in Catalonia, El Bulli, is to be a guest chef at the Cafe Royal on Regent Street from 12 February to 9 April next year.

Mr Adria - who has five restaurant and bars in Barcelona and Ibiza, three with single Michelin stars - is preparing a spectacular 30 course menu for £150, which will be available for 50 days.

The project - known as “50 Days by Albert Adria - is his first outside Spain.

He has worked for 23 years with his brother, who is planning to open a gastronomic visitor centre in 2017 called elBulli 1846.

Albert started working in the restaurant - which closed in 2011 - when he was 15. He became a pastry chef because an allergy to shellfish limited how much work he could do preparing savoury dishes.

He was named World’s Best Pastry Chef earlier this year.

During the residency, for which booking lines open today, diners will be served drinks in the Cafe Royal’s opulent Oscar Wilde Bar and eat in The Domino Restaurant.
