A young man is fighting for life after he fell off his electric scooter in north London.

He was rushed to hospital by air ambulance shortly after 11pm on Thursday after the incident in Primrose Hill.

It is the third accident in the last two weeks involving the battery-powered vehicles in London.

A Met Police spokesman said: “At around 11.15pm on Thursday police were called to a man who had fallen off an electric scooter in Bridge Approach.

“The man, aged in his 20s, was not in collision with any other vehicle or person.

“He has been taken by London’s Air Ambulance to a London hospital, where his condition is critical.

“The man’s identity is not known. Urgent police enquiries are underway to establish his identity and inform his family.”

Electric scooters are illegal to ride in public in the UK. Most users are unaware that e-scooters that reach speeds of 40mph can only be used on private land.

Anyone riding them the roads risks a £300 fine and six points on their driving licence, while those that ride them on the pavement face a £30 penalty.
