After more than 200 public figures signed a letter encouraging the Scottish nation to vote against independence, will the Time Lord be adding his name to the list?

The Londoner was at the BFI last night for a special screening of the first episode of the new series of Doctor Who, featuring Glasgow-born Peter Capaldi in the new incarnation of the sci-fi hero.

After regenerating into his new form, Capaldi’s Doctor is perplexed by his new appearance. “My eyebrows,” he says, “they’re crosser than the rest of my face. They want to cede and form an independent state.”

On hearing his new voice after the regeneration, the new Doctor Who spots the vocal lilt. “Ah, I am Scottish!” he exclaims. “That means I can complain about things.”

Finally, when a minor character asks him what devilry is afoot, he replies: “I don’t know but I’ll probably blame the English.”

Time for a cameo by Alex Salmond?
