He made his name playing an American army captain in Band of Brothers and counts President Obama among his fans after his performance in Homeland but it turns out that even Damian Lewis occasionally has auditions that simply fall flat.

Episodes star Matt LeBlanc had revealed that when they were first casting for the comedy series, Damian came into read for the part of Sean — a role that later went to Stephen Mangan.

“The part is this very quiet, timid writer, and Damian’s not like that at all,” LeBlanc told The Hollywood Reporter. “It sounded like two guys about to go out and get into a bar fight. He was like, ‘I don’t think I’m right for this’.” What we want to know is did Mangan ever go up for the part of Homeland’s Sergeant Brody?
