Foodie future for TUC boss Brendan Barber

Ed Miliband amused guests at Brendan Barber’s leaving party at the TUC last night by revealing that after retiring the General Secretary will take a cookery course with Mervyn King, who is stepping down as Governor of the Bank of England. “It’s a case of, if you can’t stand the heat get back into the kitchen,” quipped Miliband.

In a taped video message King paid tribute to Barber’s work before adding “see you on the cookery course”. It’s thought the pair are to attend lessons at one of Jamie Oliver’s establishments. When tackled about the plans, Barber refused to confirm the details saying “it’s still simmering”.
