Hollywood hits the mark at Ukip

Peter Whittle, the new culture spokesman for Ukip, sent a patriotic email to supporters yesterday to mark St George’s Day. “Whether it be by organising a procession or a festival, or simply flying a flag, more and more of us are taking the opportunity to celebrate England and Englishness,” he writes. “Pride in our history … is felt by people of all generations, despite constant attempts to discourage it.”

Whittle may love his country but last month he confessed that some do it better. When asked to list his favourite TV shows, he noted “the US version of House of Cards”.
