Kenneth Branagh takes critics on a wild goose chase up north

4 July 2013

Sir Kenneth Branagh is testing the patience of some theatre critics with his press performance of Macbeth in Manchester on Friday.

Some scribes were already miffed about having to travel north for a show which many of them will struggle to get into Saturday morning’s papers because of printing deadlines. They have also not yet been told the venue, which is being kept secret. “We have to assemble at some nearby rendezvous,” says one. “It is like something out of a bad murder mystery.”

“The advice from the rehearsal room is that this isn’t the time to wear your best, light coloured, dry-clean-only outfit or any easily stained fabrics.”
