Panic stations at BBC Radio 5 Live this morning as Owen Jones pulled out of an interview at 8.20am, just as he was about to go on air to talk about Iain Duncan Smith’s comments on not being a “job snob”.

The author of Chavs: The Demonization of the Working Class hadn’t been aware that the BBC was striking over compulsory redundancy until his Twitter followers told him. As his principles kicked in, so did Radio 5 Live’s Plan B — extra sports coverage.
