Who would dare to call Piers Morgan untalented and past it? That would be Rupert Murdoch. The News Corp boss this morning launched a seemingly unprovoked Twitter attack on the man he once appointed to edit the News of the World. Morgan looked as if he was going on to TV greatness with his own talk show on CNN, after falling from grace as Mirror editor, but the plug was pulled on the show earlier this year.

Over to Rupe. “Piers Morgan seems unemployed after failing to attract any audience in the US,” he wrote this morning. “Seemed out of place. Once talented, now safe to ignore.” Ouch. How did Morgan, himself not shy of Twitter, react? He was unusually terse. “Love Rupert Murdoch’s Twitter feed,” he said.
