Profumo on the sidelines in new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical

Christ: Andrew Lloyd Webber may consider a girl for the role
13 March 2013

Andrew Lloyd Webber says the politician John Profumo will play only a minor role in the musical he is writing about the Christine Keeler scandal.

The ex-showgirl is best known for her part in the Profumo Affair, which brought down Macmillan’s government in 1963, but Lloyd Webber says her liaison with the then Secretary of State for War will take up “about seven minutes of the narrative.”

Lord Lloyd-Webber joined guests such as Liz Hurley and Julian Fellowes at last night’s book launch of Louise Fennell’s Fame Game, at Grace Belgravia.

The musical’s working title is Stephen Ward, a pimp who introduced Keeler to Profumo. There’s some surprise that Lloyd Webber hasn’t gone for a sexier title.
