Supportive cheering for David Lammy

Yesterday the Standard broke the news​ that David Lammy was the first MP to declare he wanted to be the Labour candidate for Mayor of London. The cheering has already started. Alan Sugar tweeted: “Great news ... he is one hell of a community man.”​

Victoria Coren Mitchell ​joined in with “he’s a smart, decent man; very good news for London” while Labour MP Andy Burnham ​threw his support behind Lammy with “just the kind of down-to-earth, decent & authentic voice London needs”.

It pays to be first out of the blocks.
