Voting figures are Strictly confidential, says the BBC

It’s another conspiracy. The BBC has refused to disclose under the Freedom of Information Act a full weekly breakdown of public voting for the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing showing the number of votes cast per dancer, and judges’ scoring, rather than just overall ranking positions.

In answering the request, a BBC spokesman said: “The information requested is excluded from the Act because it is held for the purposes of ‘journalism, art or literature’.”

About 14 million viewers tuned in for December’s final, many of whom will have cast a vote by phone. Why can’t the public know by how much Olympic gymnast Louis Smith won?
