A curious party trick from former Foreign Secretary William Hague. As well as an ability to drink 14 pints in an afternoon in his youth, he has an uncanny knack with dates. In today’s Times, Daniel Finkelstein explains that he was having a curry with Hague when he displayed his ability to give the day of a date decades in the future. “I began to test him,” Finkelstein recalls. “March 26, 2044?” “A Friday,” “October 14, 2031?” “A Tuesday.” Did he wow Angelina Jolie with his way with numbers? Bet Brad Pitt couldn’t do that.
