Brian Paddick: I don’t know cost of my bus policy (and it doesn’t matter)

Paddick: 'I don’t know what the figure is off the top of my head.'

Brian Paddick has admitted not knowing “the detail” of one of his key election policies.

The Lib-Dem mayoral candidate floundered during an interview with BBC London last night when asked about the cost of his proposal for a one-hour bus ticket.

Mr Paddick launched the scheme yesterday, saying it would save people hundreds of pounds by letting them hop on and off as many times as they want within an hour. Questioned about its cost, and that of discount fares for travel before 7.30am, Mr Paddick said: “I don’t know what the figure is off the top of my head.”

Asked by reporter Tom Edwards if not knowing the details was “embarrassing” he replied: “No it’s not. I’m not somebody who is going to know the ins and outs of exactly what the detail is... I have an excellent team who know all the facts and figures.”

The former Met commander said that both initiatives had been “fully costed”.
