On the beat: Boris with police in Harrow

Off to Harrow this morning where Boris was launching his crime manifesto.

He was taking a "personal lead" in fighting crime, he said. Not by chairing the MPA (the reins of which he handed over to deputy mayor for policing Kit Malthouse mid-term) but by going out on dawn raids with the cops.

"Twice I have wielded the door-smasher and entered premises where the police had reason to believe they would find a criminal suspect," he told the gathered party faithful.

"On neither occasion did we find anyone guilty of an offence. The first time a chap woke to find me at the end of his bed and screamed.

"The second time I had to be escorted from the premises because there was a lady with no clothes on."
