Boris Johnson has joined business social networking website LinkedIn, Downing Street said today.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said it was “particularly important” for Mr Johnson to connect with businesses during the economic recovery.

He told Westminster journalists: “The purpose of that is another platform for him to engage directly with businesses and workers.

“That’s something that is particularly important during the economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

“You can expect to see on there a mixture of written and video content from the PM which will promote UK businesses, jobs and economic announcements.”

Other leaders using the professional networking site include French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau and New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern.

In his bio, Mr Johnson describes himself as: “Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip. Leader of the Conservative Party.”

Under experience, he cites being MP for Henley, Mayor of London and Foreign Secretary.

It comes after the Prime Minister held his first cabinet meeting after the summer recess this morning.

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace was pictured shaking hands with someone on his way to the socially distanced meeting in the Foreign Office.

After the meeting it was announced that Prince William’s former private secretary Simon Case is being made the UK’s top civil servant.
