Jeremy Corbyn was heaped with praise after he was filmed helping a woman with a large pram at a train station.

The Labour leader was hailed "a gentleman" after he helped to lift the buggy up a flight of stairs at Crawley station on Monday.

The kind gesture was filmed by Mr Corbyn's press officer and posted to his Snapchat account.

Mr Corbyn was in Crawley for a local rally as part of his national tour of Conservative marginal seats.

Tory MP Henry Smith was returned as MP for Crawley in June's General Election with a reduced majority of 2,457.

Rachael Swindon posted the Snapchat clip on Twitter and wrote: "Jeremy Corbyn. You are an absolute diamond," while another fan of the Labour leader called him "a gentleman and lovely."

Serwah O'Neill tweeted: "My twin sis said you just helped her carry the uggy upstairs at Crawley station. She didn't recognise you! #LuckyIVotedLabour".

But some met the video with cynicism, with one person tweeting: "Knew the cameras were rolling", while another said: "That's not very much staged, is it?"

The Labour leader denounced the violence inflicted by "all sides" during the crisis despite pressure to personally criticise Mr Maduro, who has been accused of behaving like the "dictator of an evil regime" by Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.

Veteran Labour MP Frank Field suggested the Labour leader's comments do not befit a politician who aspires to be British prime minister.

Earlier on Monday, Mr Corbyn had visited a family health practice in Southwall, west London, where he pledged that his party would "invest more" to reduce the pressure on GPs.
